Dallas Glenn Sets Pro Stock Record at NHRA Texas Fall Nationals
Qualifying at the Texas Motorplex brought a new quickest run in Pro Stock history and a debate over a new car design.
Drag racing fans at the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals saw record-setting times during Saturday qualifying, according to Autoweek. Aaron Stanfield matched Greg Anderson's national elapsed-time record of 6.443 seconds, a record that was set a year earlier.
Dallas Glenn then took the spotlight with a run of 6.434 seconds. That is the quickest elapsed time in Pro Stock history. Glenn arrived at Texas Motorplex ranked second, 71 points behind leader Greg Stanfield.
Sunday's first round of eliminations will bring several head-to-head matchups. Glenn will race Stephen Bell, while Greg Stanfield will face Jeg Coughlin. In the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, Gaige Herrera kept his lead.
Before the main event, veteran sportsman racer Mike DePalma made an exhibition pass on Friday evening. He drove a modern Pro Stock car with a hood scoop, which is a raised air intake on the top of the car's hood. The Elite Motorsports-developed spec car carried him to a time of 6.515 seconds at 211.69 mph. He finished his exhibition runs with a time of 6.488 seconds at 211 mph.
The NHRA has required a hood scoop design for Pro Stock cars, and the rule will return in 2027. Opinions among drivers are mixed. Aaron Stanfield said he likes the design. Derek Kramer said he is not a fan of the change.
Other racers have spoken out more strongly. Eric Latino said the hood scoop move sets the class back. He also said that Mountain Motor Pro Stock is coming next year and will run 6.20-second times with the hood scoop. Matt Hartford said the change is an absolute waste of money for every team.
