Mercedes-AMG has introduced a new battery-electric SUV called the AMG GT SUV. According to Autoweek, it is the first full-sized SUV for the brand that was born entirely in Affalterbach, and it is the second vehicle built on the AMG.EA high-performance architecture.
The electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé was unveiled on May 20 in Los Angeles. The press got a first look at the GT SUV in Immendingen, Germany, on October 13, and the official launch followed on October 17.
European orders for the 53 version open on October 20. European pricing for the 53 starts at €113,050, which is roughly $12,600. The 55 and 63 versions are expected in Europe in spring 2027. US pricing will be announced later, and US cars are set to arrive in summer 2027.
The car has three axial flux electric motors, one at the front and two at the back. Its continuous power is 711 horsepower (530 kilowatts), and its peak power reaches 1,153 horsepower (860 kilowatts). The car weighs more than 5,600 pounds and is expected to reach 60 mph in 2.4 seconds.
The 55 and 63 versions use a 128-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with a range of up to 435 miles on the WLTP test cycle. The 53 version has its own 106-kilowatt-hour battery. Adding 282 miles of WLTP range takes 10 minutes using DC fast charging at up to 710 kilowatts.
The GT includes active ride control and active pitch and roll stabilization. A system called AMG Race Engineer Control can adjust accelerator response, traction control intensity, and handling. The car has a drag coefficient of 0.27, which describes how easily air flows around it.
The car's Solarbeam Metallic paint is a dark mustard yellow. Minsub Han, AMG's senior exterior designer, worked on its look. Thomas Mock, AMG's communications chief, said that AMG sales are more than 10 but less than 20 percent of any given Mercedes-Benz model. The US is AMG's biggest market, accounting for a third of sales, followed by Great Britain, China, and Japan.
Nadine Schütt, a Mercedes-AMG product manager, is involved with the new model.
