A remaster of the 2004 game Shrek 2: The Game seems to be coming to modern consoles and computers, according to a listing on the Xbox Store that was later deleted. GamesRadar reports that the company behind it is Aspyr, which has a reputation for bringing back older games.

The original Shrek 2: The Game came out on PS2, Xbox and GameCube. It mixed fighting action with light puzzles and mini-games, and it could be played together in co-op. Players could control more than just Shrek. Fiona, Donkey, Puss and other fairytale creatures were part of the cast, too.

The deleted store page and a leaked trailer suggest that much of the original remains, with a few upgrades. The remaster is expected to support 4K resolution, with better textures and an improved menu. A new Photo Mode and Cheat Mode also seem to be included. There is no release date or price yet. The writer guesses it could arrive on PC, PS5 and Nintendo consoles as well as Xbox, but that is only a guess.

Aspyr has remastered several old favorites. Its latest work includes The Lord of the Rings: War in the North and several Star Wars games, such as Knights of the Old Republic, Bounty Hunter and The Force Unleashed.

The timing fits the movies. Shrek 5 is due in theatres next summer, which will be the series' first big-screen movie in 16 years. All four earlier films have earned more than $3 billion around the world, without adjusting for inflation.
