Lucasfilm Plans More Star Wars Games Made With Independent Studios

Lucasfilm wants to make more Star Wars games, and two new titles released in 2026 show how it plans to do so. According to PC Gamer, the company hopes to create more games like Zero Company and Galactic Racer.

Zero Company is an XCOM-style tactics game, which means it is a game built around planning moves carefully, like the XCOM series. It was developed by Bit Reactor, an independent studio. Galactic Racer is an arcade racing game, developed by Fuse Games, which is also an independent studio.

Douglas Reilly, the vice president of Lucasfilm Games, said that working with smaller independent studios is part of Lucasfilm's strategy. He also said that triple-A games, such as Battlefront, will remain an essential part of that strategy.

The company's games work has changed over time. Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. Disney later shut down its games division. Then Disney signed a 10-year deal with Electronic Arts that gave it exclusive rights to make Star Wars games. Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws was announced in the final years of that deal.

Disney brought Lucasfilm Games back in 2021. Lucasfilm has a high quality bar and typically works with more experienced teams, according to the report.

Several more Star Wars projects are in progress. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was announced at The Game Awards in 2025. A third Star Wars Jedi game is in development, and Quantic Dream is developing Star Wars: Eclipse. A Knights of the Old Republic remake is also still in development.
