Apple has announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. According to The Verge, the phone was unveiled at Apple's "Surprise and shine" event, along with the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4.

The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display. When it is opened, the inner display measures 7.6 inches. The phone uses Touch ID, a fingerprint sensor, on its edge instead of Face ID, which scans the face. It has an IP68 rating, which means it is protected against dust and water.

Inside, the iPhone Duo uses the A20 Pro chip, the same chipset found in the iPhone 18 Pro. The base model has 256GB of storage and starts at $1,999.

Preorders opened on October 16 at 8am ET. Apple said that demand for the phone has been extraordinary. Shortly after preorders opened, delivery estimates for some buyers slipped into 2027. The iPhone Duo goes on sale October 23.

Apple has also published estimated repair costs for the iPhone Duo without AppleCare Plus, a repair plan. Damage to the inner display is estimated to cost $999 to repair.

The iPhone Duo arrives later than foldable phones from Samsung and Google.
