Reviews for Final Fantasy Resonance are in, and critics have shared a range of opinions, according to Nintendo Life. The review roundup covers only the Switch 2 version of the game.
Game Informer gave the game a 9/10, and it praised the game for not playing like a 'greatest hits' (a collection of the most popular songs or moments) of the series. Vooks gave it a 4.5/5. The site found the story somewhat lacking, but said the rest of the game was well fleshed out for a mobile adaptation.
GamesRadar+ gave the game a 4/5. It stated that the HD-2D visual style (a look that blends high-definition graphics with 2D sprites) has never looked better. IGN gave the game an 8/10, though it was underwhelmed by parts of the storytelling.
GameSpot gave the game a 7/10. It noted issues with repetitive combat, but said the game shines more than it stumbles. Eurogamer gave the game a 3/5, the lowest score in the roundup. The site felt the game tries a little too hard to fit in with the rest of the series.
Eurogamer also criticized the world-building, story, and pacing. Across the reviews, the story was a point that several critics mentioned, with Vooks and IGN both noting weaknesses in that area.
