Mexico City Gears Up for Its Formula 1 Grand Prix
Fans, drivers, and local creators share what makes the Mexico City race weekend special.

Formula 1 fans in Mexico have a lot to look forward to. Enrique del Bosque, a Mexican content creator, has the largest F1-related TikTok following in Latin America. He has attended races at Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy and at newer tracks in Las Vegas and Lusail City in Qatar.
Del Bosque says the Mexico City Grand Prix has its own festive flavor.
Formula 1 first added a Grand Prix in Mexico's capital in 1963. The race returned for good in 2015 after a complete rebrand, and it is under contract until at least 2028. In 2025, the Mexico City Grand Prix drew 401,326 fans, the third most attended among F1's 24 races. An estimated 48 million people in Mexico support Formula 1.
Sergio 'Checo' Pérez, a driver for the Cadillac team, was born in Guadalajara. Pérez will drive through Paseo de la Reforma on Wednesday, October 28, at 10 a.m.
Local creators are also part of the story. Iván Saldaña founded the spirits company Casa Lumbre and co-created Almave, the world's first non-alcoholic agave beverage, with Lewis Hamilton. Lilmister P, a muralist and clothing designer from Iztapalapa, designed sugar skull-inspired luchador masks for F1 Williams drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon last year.
Visitors who want to stay close to the action may like Paseo de la Reforma in Colonia Juárez, which is recommended as the base for race weekend. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez can be reached by metro Line 9.
For food, Pérez recommends El Cardenal, an old-school restaurant dating back to 1969, for breakfast. Pujol and Limosneros are Michelin-starred restaurants in Mexico City. El Hidalguense, open on weekends only, serves lamb barbacoa in Roma Sur. Cantina Salón Ríos is located near the Angel of Independence, and Charly's Alitas y Postres is a sidewalk stand in Colonia Obrera.
Pérez recommends spending at least a couple extra days in Mexico City.
