A new report about the future of Xbox has been shared by GamesRadar. The report draws on information from Fortune, and it covers a next-generation Xbox console called Project Helix.

According to Fortune, the console is set to launch by Christmas 2028. The report also says a next-generation handheld device is set to be released by the 2027 holiday season.

The report says Project Helix could cost between $1,200 and $1,800. This price range comes from Microsoft's internal projections, which estimate what consumers would pay for the console.

Fortune's sources also suggest that Xbox could choose to subsidize some of the console's cost. To subsidize means to help pay part of a cost, so Xbox could take a loss on manufacturing the machine.

Microsoft's internal engineering deadlines for Project Helix have reportedly been moved up by several months. The report describes internal clashes between the Xbox and Windows teams over which software Project Helix should use. The Windows team reportedly wanted the handheld to use a version of Windows, while the Xbox team reportedly wanted to use custom software.

The report also covers Xbox's plan to lay off 3,200 developers, which is still going on. Fortune reports that 1,868 of those jobs have been cut so far. More rounds of layoffs are set to occur in October, November, and January.

According to GamesRadar, these details come from Fortune's reporting, and the information about Project Helix is still based on reports rather than official announcements.
