Discord is making a change that will make conversations on its largest public servers easier to see. According to Engadget, the company wants information from these communities to be easier to find through web searches.

The change applies only to Discoverable Servers. These servers have at least 1,000 members and do not require an invitation to join. Private servers, DMs and Group DMs will remain private.

On November 16, all Discoverable Servers will receive Server Web Pages. These pages will show basic server information, including a description and summaries of discussions in public channels.

By mid-December, messages posted to public channels could start appearing word-for-word on Server Web Pages and in search engine results. Neither channel summaries nor individual channel messages will show the poster's username or avatar.

Server admins can choose to opt channels out of being included in the web presence starting now. Individual users can also keep their Discoverable Server posts from being indexed. This option is found in the Data and Privacy section of Discord's User Settings.

In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, channel messages will be off by default. Teen Discord users are excluded and cannot turn on channel messages until they reach adult age.

Discord recently faced backlash over its implementation of age verification policies.
