Two Comedians Visit the Golden Door Spa for Condé Nast Traveler
Comedians Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak went to the Golden Door on assignment, and they shared what they found there.

Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak are comedians who also co-host a wellness podcast called Poog. Recently, they went to the Golden Door on assignment for Condé Nast Traveler, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
The Golden Door opened in 1958. Berlant and Novak's stay took place during co-ed week, which is a week when men and women both attend the spa together.
The spa follows a weekly rhythm. Groups arrive on Sunday and leave on Sunday. Guests pay $13,000 per person for the stay.
When guests arrive, they receive a printed list that includes the names of the guests and the cities they come from. This helps people see who else is staying at the spa during their visit.
Some guests return to the spa again and again. One guest had made her 118th visit to the Golden Door. Guests who visit more than 100 times receive a brass plaque, which is a metal sign made of a yellow mix of copper and zinc.
The spa has a bridge with an unusual feature. As guests cross it, the bridge changes direction by fifteen degrees to the left.
The Golden Door gives its profits to charity. This means that money earned by the spa is donated to good causes.
Berlant's latest comedy special, called "Parmesan," was released on HBO on October 16. Novak's next tour begins on November 20.
